Memorial High School (MHS)’s state champion team tennis program added another honor to its championship season this week, receiving the H-Town High School Sports Team of the Week Award during a presentation at the school’s tennis courts.
The Mustangs captured the UIL Class 6A state championship with a 10-7 victory over Southlake Carroll on Oct. 22 in San Antonio. Memorial advanced to the final after defeating previously unbeaten Round Rock Westwood 10-9 in the semifinals.
The victory marked Memorial’s third team tennis state championship, joining titles earned in 2017 and 2019. Led by head coach Brian Mandell and assistant coach JP Bonilla, the Mustangs also recorded shutout wins in their first three playoff rounds.
