Attendance Guidelines

Office Hours: 7:15am - 3:30pm

When a student is absent:

Call or email as soon as possible with our student's name or ID number, grade and reason for their absence

Information received before 10:30am may cancel the computer calls and emails

When you want to check a student out:

Written permission is mandatory FOR ALL STUDENTS before dismissals can be sent to the classroom and before they can sign out

Parent emails and faxes are acceptable as permission to leave campus notes

Parents do not have to be present when the student signs out as long as a note/email/fax has been received

when a student returns to campus:

Turn in any health related notes from the practitioner when they sign in or drop it off the next day

Parents do not have to be present when the student signs in if they return the same day

Notes:

Must be turned in within 2 school days

They will be accepted afterwards and a notation made but the computer will not be changed

Attendance in real time:

Check with MHS front office to receive your user and login information to Skyward Family Access for attendance and  more

Testing:

Students are not released early from any testing for any reason even if the student has completed the exam

Attendance is a database that is looked at differently for the following categories:

Excessive excused absences:

Letters will begin to be generated when a student is absent from any class 3 times or misses 3  or more classes the same day

and the reason for the absence is excused

Doctor notes will offset this type of absence

Unexcused absences:

Letters will begin to be generated when a student is absent from any class 3 times or misses 3 or more classes the same day and the reason

is unexcused and/or the school has not heard from the parents as to why the student is missing from one or more classes.

After 2 letters a conference will need to be held with the principal

Additional unexcused absences can result in court summons and fines for students and parents

Doctor notes will offset this type of absence in regards to legal truancy

Loss of Credit:

Students are required to be in class 90% of the time the class is taught per Texas State law

Almost all absences count towards this total of 9 allowed absences

When a student misses the 10th time in a class they must speak with their principal regarding making up that time

Doctor notes will NOT offset this type of absence
