Dance I & II
Dance I
This is a course offered to girls who are interested in learning the basics of dance. There are no prerequisites. The class may count as a Fine Arts or P.E. credit.
Dance II
This course is offered to girls who successfully completed Dance I or who have had extensive dance training. The forms of dance covered in this class include ballet/lyrical, jazz, modern and improvisational dance. This class is intermediate to advanced level and requires discipline and endurance. It is designed for girls who wish to pursue dance for a Fine Arts or P.E. credit but who may not wish to participate on the Markettes Dance Team.
Pre-Markettes
Pre-Markettes
This is a course offered to girls who are interested in learning the basics of dance. There are no prerequisites. This course is offered to all grade levels and can be used as a Fine Arts or P.E. credit. The course teaches all the requirements for girls who are interested in trying out for the Markettes Dance Team. Tryouts for the Markettes Dance Team are held in late November/early December. Girls who are selected for the team will remain in the Pre-Markettes class and may participate in dance competitions and the annual spring show as Junior Varsity members.
Markettes
The Memorial Markettes Dance Team has a 43-year tradition of excellence at Memorial High School. Team members must have excellent dance skills and must be responsible, self-disciplined, and committed to representing MHS as a member of the dance team. Girls are selected at tryouts each year and participate in an intense dance course during class and after school to learn new routines and constantly improve technique. Markette team members put in long hours of practice and hard work and are required to learn and try out for all dance performances, including pep rallies, field routines, annual competition and the spring show. The girls benefit from being part of a tight-knit group, as they enjoy fun and friendships with girls across all ages and grade levels on the team. This class counts as a Fine Arts or P.E. credit.
