A Solid Foundation

The theatre program at Memorial High School has a solid foundation in creating great theatre experiences. We offer a full season featuring at least one musical each year. We also compete in UIL One-Act Play competition and are part of the ComedySportz High School League.  Our programming allows both students interested in performance and technical theatre to gain the information necessary to enter college and succeed.  Students gain classroom experience through our four levels of classes in both acting and technical theatre and a variety of theatre performances and design opportunities.

Awards, Scholarships & International Competitions

MHS Theatre students have received state and national theatre scholarships through the International Thespian Society and can be seen performing all over the United States.  We have performed at the international level at the International Thespian Society Festival held each summer at the University of Nebraska campus on the Main Stage and won as technical design students.  We have had winners in theatrical design and both students and the department have received Tommy Tune Nominations for their ensemble, tech and individual work with wins in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor categories.  MHS students have also been seen at the Jimmy Awards held on Broadway honoring the best in high school musical from around the US.   We have performed for Texas Thespians, SBISD and at the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Scotland.  We are proud of what we have been part of and are excited about our graduates around the globe working in the performing and visual arts.
