Performance and Music Education

The Memorial High School Choirs have earned a reputation for excellence in performance and in music education. The choirs include Belle Chanson Treble Choir (open to all MHS 9th and 10th grade women), Men's Choir (open to all MHS 9th and 10th grade men), the A Cappella Mixed Choir (open to all 11th and 12th grade students), Soundwaves (an auditioned Jazz ensemble),  Bel Canto (an auditioned women's choir), and Meistersingers (an auditioned mixed choir).
 

High Praise & Awards

Over the years the MHS Choirs have traveled to compete in New Orleans, New York, Toronto, the Bahamas, and Europe, winning high praise and awards from adjudicators. Every year the choirs present a Fall Concert, a Holiday Concert, voice recitals, a Soundwaves concert, and an end of the Year themed concert call The Pop Show.

Memorial Choirs annually compete in the University Intesrscholastic Leage (UIL) Concert and Sight Reading Contest where they have recently earned sweepstakes and first division ratings  In addition to group competitions, the MHS choir students compete and receive individual awards and accolades.  The students annually compete and excell in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Choir competition.  Memorial students also compete in regonal and state UIL Solo and Ensemble contests.  Our students have also competed for membersgip in national honor choirs sponsored by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Tri-M is the National Music Honor Society for high school students sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference. Selection is based on academic scholarship, musicianship, leadership, citizenship, and dedication to the fine arts. Tri-M provides ways for members to serve the community through music and seeks to engender an appreciation for the arts. Examples of community service activities include: giving concerts at nursing homes, ushering at musical performances and sponsoring free student recitals.

Must Perform in Tri-M RecitalHow Do You Stay In Tri-M?

Attend All Meetings (if unable to attend a meeting, have an excuse in writing or email at least 24 hrs before or after a meeting) Must Meet Point Requirements by the End of the Semester.

 

Point System :
35 Points need for Fall Semester. Points required for maintenance of membership. 70 You must participate in one of each of the following events (you will receive points for these):

  • Attending a Tri-M group professional performance
  • An MHS muscial performance (band, orchestra, or choir concert, or the school musical. This must be a concert that you are not performing in.)

 

Participation in at least one Tri-M coordinated community service event is mandatory for the year.

Reminders:
If you usher a concert, you only get points for ushering. If you want points for attending a high school performance, then you must stay for the entire duration of the concert.If you attend a concert, turn in a ticket stub or program with your name on it to your Tri-M folder (located in the choir room).
