Why Geography?

The goal of World Geography is to enable learners to find answers to questions about the world around us; about where things are, how & why they got there, and the dynamic relationship between  humans and the earth. The power and beauty of geography allows us to see, understand, and appreciate the intricate connections between people, places and environments.                                                                                               (adapted from Geography For Life, 1994)

About Me

After graduating from OSU, I taught United States History in Alief ISD and served as Social Studies Department Chairman.  At Memorial High School I have taught AP World History and World Geography at the academic, PreAP, and GT levels.  Both of my sons are MHS graduates, so I am very familiar with being on the other side of the desk: particularly in my capacities as PTA president and Campus Improvement Team member.  Being raised on three continents has given me an appreciation of other cultures and a love of travel.  I try to impart this global curiosity to my students both inside the classroom and through international summer trips.  I promote student involvement and sponsor many clubs, including:  UIL Current  Issues and Events, World Affairs Council Academic WorldQuest Challenge, the Council of Interantional Affairs (CIA), Art Car Society, Chess Club, and Boy's Lacrosse. I see value in every one of my students and believe that if a student puts forth effort, I will do everything in my power to work overtime to help them succeed.
